Proboscidea Mammal classification has been through several iterations since Carl Linnaeus initially defined the class. Since Simpson’s classification, the paleontological record has been recalibrated, and the intervening years have seen much debate and progress concerning the theoretical underpinnings of systematization itself, partly through the new concept of cladistics. Though field work gradually made Simpson’s classification outdated, it remains the closest thing to an official classification of mammals.

Between the car park and the road is the 19th century graveyard, though you would be forgiven for missing it. The stones were laid flat some years ago to make grass cutting easier and with neglect, weather and sinkage have made most indecipherable. The graves are mostly those of victims of the cholera and typhoid epidemics that hit the town from the mid-century on. Not far away is the spot where five witches and a warlock called John Craw were strangled and burned at the stake in Moving along the road towards the town proper we note the nicely restored house with its forestair and a tenement building dating from with a plaque commemorating the Sea Box Society which was founded in as a kind of insurance society for sea captains.
A little further along the south side of Corbiehall is the old Star Cinema which was originally the Parish Church of Boness built with money from the Sea Box Society in It was much changed over the years and served as an Episcopal Church for a period after the new Parish Church was built on Pan Brae in Behind it is the surviving graveyard which we will visit on our way back.
Ahead of us beyond the roundabout we can see the first of a group of buildings which survive near the Ness where the harbour was built in the 17th century.

Should Dogs Eat Bones? Staff The age of tradition giving the dog a bone is now under scrutiny. Should dogs eat bones? Chicken bones, rawhide bones, and bones that are brittle and can break into shreds should absolutely be avoided according to veterinarians who have been in practice for ten years or less. Other veterinarians claim that they are essential. Dogs who eat bones generally tend to just eat the bone, no fuss, no muss. Dog owners that encourage their dogs to chomp down a big meaty bone every now and then claim that those who restrict their dogs are being overly cautious.
However, there have been an increasing number of dog bone incidents that lead veterinarians to deem bone chomping a danger to dogs. This can be viewed two different ways. While you are walking your dog things can happen.

Coal and Bo’ness Compiled by: Ken Wright In the 12th Century Monks of Holyrood Abbey, Edinburgh, were granted a tithe by William Di Vipont to dig coal from his Carriden estate, which was then carried to Holyrood in panniers strapped to the backs of their horses; later it was taken to Leith by sailing ship. In monks from Dunfermline Abbey were also given the right to dig coal from outcrops around Bo’ness.
Aeneas Sylvius, the future Pope Pius II, visited the area in and wrote in his journal “the poor, who almost in a state of nakedness begged at the church door, depart with joy in their faces on receiving stones as alms”! This account reveals that although coal was commonly used as fuel in Scotland it was yet unknown in many parts of Europe.

Often, no one could have seen it coming. Boundary issues can arise in ways that therapists may not initially predict or even recognize. But, in too many cases therapists behaved in ways that seem completely out of touch with the impact their decisions and actions had on those with whom they had a professional relationship. Legal suits and the cost of defending licensing board complaints cause professional liability insurance rates to rise, thus harming all therapists. Sadly, the stigma and the stress endured by the therapist if found guilty can be debilitating Warren and Douglas, Among the most significant changes in the ethics codes of professional organizations are those related to the drawing of boundaries between therapists and their clients.
Over the last couple of decades we have witnessed a relaxation of rigid restrictions. The reasoning for this has included the recognition that boundary crossing cannot be totally avoided, some belonging under certain circumstances may even be helpful to the client or at least cause them no harm , and sometimes boundary crossings are mandated Barnett, a. On the surface, the loosening of restrictions also feels more protective of therapists, allowing for leeway as to how therapists and their clients interact.
At the same time, however, additional burdens are placed on therapists because the rules are no longer firm. What the therapist may deem as an acceptable, even helpful, boundary crossing may be experienced as inappropriate or harmful by the client, as will be discussed further. Our main goal for this course is to make a strong case for vigilance and ongoing self-awareness when making decisions about boundary crossing with clients.

The various dating techniques available to archaeologists by Michael G. Furthermore, when you consider that many archaeological sites will contain numerous types of artifacts that permit the use of multiple dating methodologies, a modern archaeologist can often employ cross-dating methodologies which can allow for extremely accurate dating as far back as 10, years in some regions. Natural Dating Techniques A modern archaeologist has almost half a dozen natural dating techniques that she can apply in the field that she can use to quickly determine an approximate date range, which, in the cases of varve analysis and dendrochronology, can often be used to decrease the date range estimate to a matter of just a few years.
One of the oldest natural dating techniques is geochronology, which is based on the principle of superposition — an object, or layer, on top must have been placed there at a later point in time. Once a geologist has determined the absolute age of a geological formation, the archaeologist can assign an indirect date to objects found in the formation. In archaeology, geochronology lays the foundations for the dating technique better known as stratigraphy that assesses the age of archaeological materials by their association with geological deposits or formations.
For example, the successive formation of post-Pleistocene shorelines at Cape Krusenstern Alaska provided J Louis Giddings with a means of ordering sites chronologically. A prime example of stratigraphy is varve analysis. A varve is a sedimentary bed, or a sequence of such beds, that are deposited in a body of still water in a year. By dividing the rate of sedimentation in terms of units per year by the number of units deposited following a geologic event, an archaeologist or geologist can roughly establish the age of an event in years.
The counting and correlation of varves has been used to measure the age of Pleistocene glacial deposits by way of the strata annually deposited in lakes by retreating glaciers. The upper limit of varve dating is dependent upon the region. A sequence of 17, years has been established in Scandinavia and a sequence of 20, years has been established in the United States in the state of Alaska.
Another example of stratigraphy is biostratigraphy.
