What is a biblical level of intimacy before marriage? Those who ask this question are usually looking for guidelines regarding physical boundaries in dating. However, intimacy is a much broader issue than physicality. A dictionary definition of intimacy talks about close friendship, deep emotional connection, and sexual involvement. To be intimate with someone is to be close to him or her, to reveal private information, to feel linked together.
Intimacy includes emotional and spiritual connectedness as well as physical connection. Dating couples grow more and more intimate as they become more serious about the relationship. If proper boundaries are not established, increasing intimacy can have some undesirable results — such as feelings of abuse or betrayal following a break-up, loss of appropriate personal boundaries without a commensurate commitment, and beginning to become one before the couple actually belongs to one another.
With this in mind, let’s explore some boundary guidelines. It is difficult to provide solid physical boundaries that apply to every dating relationship.

Last month I posted some statistics on living together before marriage. Since then I have received a number of inquiries as to what the Bible says about living together. So in this post I would like to share some of the Biblical teaching about living together before marriage. This should not be surprising, because the Bible has some strong things to say about living together. God is a loving God, and he gives us his commands for our protection.
Those who choose not to live together before marriage will likely avoid many of the negative outcomes described in the earlier post.

May 16, People say prayer brings married couples together, but what about unmarried ones? To pray together, or not to pray together? That is the question. For married couples of faith, the decision is a bit more obvious. They have clever adages in support of the idea, such as, “The couple that prays together stays together,” as well as a whole host of surveys, books, and websites singing the praises of how prayer can strengthen a relationship.
My husband and I are both a little shy in front of people (which makes for an interesting wedding day!). We didn’t want everyone staring at us for our first dance, so we asked the DJ to invite all the couples in the room to share our first dance with us.
Recently the subject of guys and breakups came up and Sabrina and I went back and forth about what guys generally go through when they breakup. Simple enough to say, but I know plenty of women will talk about how some guy came off like an insensitive jackass after the relationship fell apart because of his actions post-breakup.
If a guy is profoundly obnoxious or terrible after a breakup, it is most often a testament to how rough the breakup was on him. Some people cope by lashing out. Jerry Seinfeld once said that breaking up a relationship needs to be like taking off a Band-aid — One motion: In the same regard, when a relationship ends, it is much much harder for a guy to go back and discuss and revisit and talk through and explain, etc. Personally, I have had breakups where I pretty much went cold.

Dating Advice – Out-of-Town Dating Dilemmas Avoiding some of the pitfalls that can cause an otherwise promising courtship to unravel. You recommend one date for 2 or 3 hours and then not another one for several days, and I’ve followed that advice. Now I am about to date someone from another city. I need to travel several hours by plane. Does your advice change in this situation? It seems impractical to sit around a foreign place and wait a few days in-between dates!
Hank Dear Hank, With relatively inexpensive air fares and even cheaper long-distance telephone rates not to mention the blessings of e-mail , it is now easier than ever to negotiate a long distance courtship. However, anyone considering long-distance dating should be aware of the inherent problems in dating a G. Before two people even consider beginning a long-distance courtship, we recommend that they clarify two points. The first is that each of them is dating for the purpose of marriage, and the reason they are dating each other is to see if they will be able to develop a relationship that will ultimately lead to marriage.
The next point to clarify is that one of the parties and it doesn’t matter which one is willing to relocate if the two of them decide to marry. So let’s say those two issues are clarified. You’ve coordinated your schedules, purchased the airline ticket, and arranged for accommodations once you arrive in your date’s home city. What do you do once you get there?

Praying together as a couple by Steven P. I know one Christian brother who flat out refuses to pray together with his wife. He says he prays by himself, but he won’t pray together with his wife. Praying with his wife makes him feel too uncomfortable, so he won’t pray with her. I hate to say it, but his views are not uncommon. Very few Christian couples actually take the time to pray together.
