Award-winning academic research search engine metaBUS to launch in June Research tool can perform meta-analysis in minutes and gives academics unprecedented opportunity to quickly understand published findings Posted: May 26, A trailblazing online search engine that will save researchers years of time while conducting meta-analysis will be unveiled next week at the University of Calgary, with help from NAIT. Its creators believe it is the largest collection of curated, published research findings of its kind. Academics currently spend months or even years combing through published research journals to do meta-analysis — the process of summarizing past findings in a given field — as they conduct research. The team behind metaBUS has coded nearly one million journal findings, dating back to , into metaBUS in the fields of organizational psychology and human resources. Instead of manually finding, reading and summarizing journal articles, metaBUS users will be able to create field level summaries in real time by classifying metadata to achieve a never-before-seen level of research curation.

For the first time, physicists at CERN have observed a benchmark atomic energy transition in antihydrogen, a major step toward cooling and manipulating the basic form of antimatter. Antimatter, annihilated on impact with matter, is notoriously tricky to capture and work with. But its study is key to solving one of the great mysteries of the universe: The so-called Lyman-alpha transition, first seen in hydrogen more than years ago, is measured as a series of ultraviolet emissions when a hydrogen atom’s electron is prompted to shift from a low orbital to a high orbital.
Using laser pulses lasting nano seconds, Momose, Fujiwara, Canadian colleagues, and the international ALPHA collaboration at CERN, were able to achieve the same transition in several hundred antihydrogen atoms magnetically trapped in a vacuum. Aside from the very real challenge of trapping that many antihydrogen atoms long enough to work with them, fine-tuning the laser system components took years.
They use the world’s largest and most complex scientific instruments to study the basic constituents of matter – the fundamental particles. The particles are made to collide together at close to the speed of light. The process gives the physicists clues about how the particles interact, and provides insights into the fundamental laws of nature.

Cosmic rays affect many aspects of our lives, and sometimes these tiny particles can create significant problems. The Inuvik Research Centre is home to a cosmic ray monitor. It is one of many around the world that detect cosmic rays from outer space. It has been in operation for thirty years, and to many it is a mystery as to why it is here, and what it does.

Return to top JobisJob is our only finalist with international job boards, which cover 28 countries across Europe, the Americas, Asia, and Africa. To top it off, JobisJob made a strong showing in almost all of our tests. It had tons of fresh postings daily, sent us email alerts that actually felt helpful, and came in just behind Indeed and Glassdoor for the overall quality of jobs listed.
For example; listings in Dallas, Iowa kept showing up when we searched for Dallas, Texas. JobIsJob also fell prey to a classic posting trick: That generally feels like the right or normal thing to do.

Academic Institution Partnership Hydrogeological Survey of Somalia Despite groundwater being the main source of water for humans, agriculture and livestock, there is neither a hydrogeological map nor a sound policy for groundwater management and exploration in Somalia. SWALIM undertook a quantitative and updated assessment of the groundwater resources of Somaliland and Puntland and the set-up of a system for groundwater level monitoring.

Formerly the reception zone for freight, the Warehouse District is a neighbourhood that has since been the subject of redevelopment. Street-scape of a typical residential neighbourhood in Regina. Some neighbourhoods of note include: Bedroom communities[ edit ] From its first founding, particularly once motorcars were common, Reginans have repaired to the nearby Qu’Appelle Valley on weekends, for summer and winter holidays and indeed as a place to live permanently and commute from.
Since the s, many of the towns near Regina have steadily lost population as western Canada’s agrarian economy re-organised itself from small family farm landholdings of a quarter-section acres, the original standard land grant to homesteaders to the multi-section a “section” being acres 2. Qu’Appelle , at one time intended to be the metropole for the original District of Assiniboia in the North-West Territories as they then were , saw during the s, s and s Regina cottagers pass through en route to the Qu’Appelle Valley; Highway 10, which bypassed Qu’Appelle, running directly from Balgonie to Fort Qu’Appelle off Highway Number 1, quickly ended this.
Qu’Appelle has recently seen more interest taken in it as a place to live. Culture in Regina Regina has a substantial cultural life in music, theatre and dance, supported by the fine arts constituency at the University of Regina, which has faculties of music, theatre and arts. At various times this has attracted notable artistic talent: The long-established MacKenzie Art Gallery once occupied cramped quarters adjacent to Darke Hall on the University of Regina College Avenue Campus; since relocated to a large building at the southwest corner of the provincial government site, at Albert Street near 23rd Avenue.
Kendrick , Bob Boyer and Joe Fafard , now with significant international reputations, have been other artists from or once in Regina. Concerts and recitals are performed both by local and visiting musicians in the Centre of the Arts and assorted other auditoriums including the University of Regina. The Regina Conservatory of Music operates in the former girls’ residence wing of the Regina College building.

The Pigeon as a Source of Food: Ancient Dove Houses, Cappadocia Turkey Rock Doves are believed to have been domesticated by Neolithic man over 10, years ago, but it is likely that Stone Age man exploited pigeons for food much earlier. The rock dove would have lived alongside Stone Age man, sharing caves and roosting and breeding on cliff faces alongside man, proving easy access to pigeon nests to take eggs and squabs pigeon chicks. The first historical mention of domesticated pigeons being used for food was in Egypt in BC; a menu that included pigeon as a dish was found during an excavation.
Early Clay Pigeon Breeding Pots During another excavation of an Egyptian tomb dating back to BC the remains of a funerary meal were found which included pigeon bones, further confirming that pigeons were used for food during this period.
